The 5 Super Powers!
Sleep
Did you know that sleep is a Superpower? Human beings are the only animal that deliberately deprive themselves of sleep with no legitimate gain yet sleep is the most effective thing to reset our brain and body health
- Poor sleep increases appetite and makes you gain weight
- Routinely sleeping less than 6 -7 hours a night worsens the immune system, contributes to mental health illness as well as shortening your lifespan.
Eating
With weight loss, a calorie is a calorie. However, for health, what and how we eat is important
You are what you eat
Our Western diet, full of saturated fats and carbohydrates, is what is making us sick. Our body cannot cope with this and so tries to protect the body and it is this protection that ultimately leads to insulin resistance, chronic inflammation and weight gain.
Breathing
Just like we live in a culture of over-eating, we live in a culture of over-breathing.
Our noses are for breathing and our mouths are for eating! But 40% of us suffer from chronic nasal obstruction with half of us being habitual mouth breathers.
An important study as shown that the greatest indicator of lifespan was lung capacity and we lose weight through exhaled breath!
All good reasons to breath properly!
Move
Movement has a small role in weight loss but it is important for everything else! If you don’t use it, you lose it!
Movement increases dopamine which is the feel-good hormone. Even just stretches or a walk can help your brain and body to feel better.
Social connections
It is well known that another of the strongest predictors of life expectancy is the number of social connections that we have.
Social connections improve your ability to recover from stress, anxiety, and depression as well as improving sleep, well-being, and quality of life.
